The Settlers of Catan is an up-and-coming board game craze from designer Klaus Teuber that originated in Europe. Since 1995, the series has grown to have multiple expansions and spin-offs, and now has popped up both on MSN Games and Xbox Live Arcade. The premise is simple enough - you want to essentially prove your dominance of the newly discovered Catan.

To do this, you manipulate the resources of Catan through harvesting and trading with the islands’ other inhabitants. On each turn a pair of dice are rolled, and the roll determines who collects how many of what resources. There are five resources, and having all of them is essential to winning the game. On your turn you can take the resources you have and either trade with other players, trade four of one resource to the “Bank” for one resource of your choice, or build something. These options are all well-layed out on the game’s interface.

Later in the game, as you build more roads, settlements, and cities, your civilization grows and will not only harvest more resources, but harvest them more often. Winning entails scoring 10 victory points. Each player begins with 2 points, and additional points are earned by building new settlements, upgrading settlements to cities, drawing special “Development Cards” that provide your civilization with unique buildings, having the longest road of any player, and having the largest army of any player. As confusing as this may seem, all of these methods of scoring relate back to the simple concept of resource management; knowing when to trade and how to bargain your way into a good deal.

As for graphics and sound, the game has a nice 3D look to it, and the sound is decent enough that you won’t mute it while playing. The sound is nothing spectacular, but the pc games free download sure are easy on the eyes while also being visually appealing.

All in all, you cannot go wrong with Catan.

Conflict-Denied Ops features a storyline we’ve all seen a hundred times before – evil dictator with designs on world domination has his hands on some WMDs, with only two people available to stop him. In this instance, those two are an unlikely duo named Graves and Lang. The former is the grizzled veteran. The latter is the mouthy rookie. Stereotypes galore, the two have no particular charisma or engaging relationship. The dialogue between them is delivered with all the acting ability of those same terrible action movies. Despite this though, you find yourself warming to their flat characters, if only because their simplicity lends itself to the general premise of the game – blowing stuff up and not caring who knows it.

It is this simplistic gameplay that is the game’s saving grace that makes it rental-worthy. You can switch between Graves or Lang with a button press, and each has his own weaponry – Graves a sniper rifle, Lang a heavy machine gun and rocket launcher. Those weapons obtain upgrades throughout the game. You run from point A to point B, and you shoot everything that moves. You blow everything up that doesn’t move. You can order your teammate to shoot/perform an action/destroy something while you’re busy. It never gets more in-depth that this. Nothing is fiddly, and the AI is serviceable enough to keep you from having to babysit your comrade, if nothing astounding. There are a few vehicles that you can hop in and use to lay waste to your enemies, though these are few and far between. It’s blunt, unashamed explosive entertainment, and it’s enough to amuse you for a rainy Sunday.

Level location is varied enough to hold your interest, ranging from frozen whaling stations to African towns to terrorist-controlled oil tankers. Each linear affair is stuffed with enemies and generic objectives – save hostages, defuse bomb; all in a day’s work for the hardcore and recreational gamer alike. Nothing here is going to push you to controller-breaking-point, but with the game’s many flaws, this average level of difficulty is quite welcome. The graphics cannot hold a candle to the likes of Grand Theft Auto 4, or Gears of War 2, certainly, but neither are they atrocious, and you won’t be reaching for the sick bucket because of any outright shoddy visuals. It also moves smoothly, without any noticeable slowdown, despite the frequent explosions. All of this is accompanied by a regrettably forgettable soundtrack which has a nasty habit of cutting out or fading at random. I wholeheartedly advise playing download free games or sticking on some of your own music while blasting through this.

This was the first game that had players exploring and finding the next goal on their own, instead of players getting from point A to point B. In this game, a young warrior by the name of Link. Link must find eight triforce pieces and rescue the princess of Hyrule, Zelda, from the grasp of Ganon. This was also the first game that has a progress-save feature. Many players had trouble finding the dungeons, much less in order. Secrets were also hard to find.

This game strays away from what made the predecessor successful. Although you still had the bird’s eye view of the overworld, much of the game was a side-scroller. Also adding to the difference from its predecessor is a leveling-up system and a magic system. The feature was a pain because when you save your game or die, you lose you experience points (you still get to keep your level). This is hell when your required point count to get to the next level is high. The controls are loose, which is not a good thing. The Adventure of Link is highly difficult and will require a lot of skill to play through.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:

A fitting choice for this collection. Arguably one of the best games ever, Ocarina of Time had depth, innovation, incredible scenery, and a hell of a story. This is also the game that introduced players to Adult Link. In this instant classic, the great Deku Tree calls upon Link to break a curse. Link later finds out that a Gerudo by the name of Ganondorf is after the Sacred Realm, which houses the triforce. Link will travel across hills, lands, seas, and even through time. The game’s story lasts seven years. Hyrule field is vast. The ocarinas not only have special powers, but can teleport you to different locations. Link now has three different arrow pc games types. Speaking of weapons, Link can only use certain weapons depending on his age. Everything about this game is wonderful and is a great addition to this collection.

In this Zelda gaiden (Japanese for side-story), Link goes on a search for a lost friend when he is ambushed by a Skull Kid wearing…Majora’s Mask, a mask with evil powers. Link then pursues the skull kid to Termina, a town that will be crushed by the moon in 72 hours (three days). Link must use his ocarina to manipulate time and find four spirits that will counter the moon and the Skull Kid’s power. This game has great graphics and control, but falls flat on length, especially when compared with its predecessor. This game seems rushed and the time feature just increases the repetition factor.

The biggest pain is when the game freezes. That happened to me twice. That happens at random, so be sure to save when you get the opportunity.

I was thinking if this was some lame side scrolling game pertaining to the Rugrats theme or something like that when you play as Tommy or someone and you have to jump on enemies or something – you know, those cookie cutter type of game. But this isn’t the case for this game because it is something a whole lot different; I am thinking that the game developer for this game got his head on straight and create a game for the market niche. Who watches Rugrats? Normally, kids. So the game developer by pass pleasing the older gamers and made this game very simple and fun for kids.

Ok basically this game is in a very linear fashion; that is, you have to beat one thing in order to accomplish anything thing else. So basically you get to go inside Tommy’s house for a little game go hide and seek; that is the only game you get to play so far. But here games the interesting part there is a sub-game for that game.

So you need go to around the house and find where the other toddlers are hiding; once you find where the others are hiding you activate the sub game. Now the sub games are very simple stuff, which requires the minimum amount of skills; most of the time its simple directional stuff like pressing A at the correct time or moving the directional keys or something. Some of the examples of the sub games include controlling the dog and trying to get him home; one of the blonde girl holding a jar and you need to catch the falling cookies and a few more.

The most interesting thing is that the sub game is cohesive; by that I mean the game makes sense in terms of what babies do. Tommy won’t be going to the mall and shopping nor do you have to do anything in the game like fighting enemies or something. Instead you’ll be stealing cookies and feeding the dog (yes, there is actually a sub game of feeding the dog in download free games for pc)

This is a peaceful and nice game, how do you make a fault and have to start all over again? The game developers were clever and they thought out of this thing I’ll call a cookie credit where if you don’t make I for the ‘quota’ (that is, the minimum amount of score in the sub game) then you lose one cookie. If you lose a total of five cookies then game over for you, pal.

The graphics in this game are pretty damn good, and the MS detail particularly is a sight to behold. What you get are mobile suits that are highly accurate and true to the original anime they were based off of, while maintaining a gritty look that really makes them look like they’ve been through the major battles of the one-year war.Special Effects are also pretty good, a beam rifle shot looks like a beam rifle shot, and so on. If you’re looking for something that’s simple and true to the original anime, you can look no further.

Apparently, even the simple mobile suit designs and rather low-detail level composition can slow down the mighty Dreamcast(or Naomi Hardware, which also suffers from slowdown), which is the largest problem with this game; You’ll be spending quite a bit of time in slow-motion as a bazillion events happen at once and your Dreamcast struggles to keep up. Another problem, mentioned before, is the rather sparse detail in the levels, especially ground levels. But you’ll be too busy dodging long-range guntank fire to really care whether that sand dune over there looks a little strange to you.

What’s more fun than running around in your Gundam, Zaku, what have you, and blasting your opponent to smithereens in many fun different ways, using many fun weapons? Very little, really. The main draw of the game is that you’re practically in the mobile suit, kicking, hacking, and blasting your enemies with a partner. Both Federation and Zeon forces have a healthy compliment of mobile suits to run around in, and secrets that allow for use of Fed/Zeon suits to be used by Zeon/Fed players further boost the replay value.

While its fun running around and felling all those who stand in your way, dying because your idiot AI partner sucks at this game isn’t. The game, being based off the anime, also tends to be rather slow, to reflect the slower style of combat in the original Gundam; you won’t be zipping through the game on 5 minute breaks like you can in, say, Virtual On, download free games takes time to get through.

Very little can be said about the sound and music. The sound effects are decent, closely matching the original anime’s sound effects, the voice acting is pretty damn good, and the music is iffy at best. The sound only serves to further immerse you in the Universal Century.

Overall: This is the best Gundam game yet. A little slowdown and moron helper AI shouldn’t do much to detract you from the fun that is burying your heat sabre into that pesky GM’s forehead.

Best described as a combination of Asteroids, Diablo and Sinistar, Armada involves elements of each in a formula that winds up being refreshingly simple. Players choose from one of six distinct races (each with differently armed ships), plod about their home base for a bit talking with allies, and blast off into space in order to take on the Armada. As the player destroys alien craft they gain experience points and monetary credits, which are used to purchase deadlier weaponry, stronger armor and other various scanning and tracking tools. As missions become assigned at the home planet, players are taken to far reaches of the vast game universe to complete tasks (usually of the seek and destroy sort) and progress through the game’s stages.

At a glance the game may look dated, but on closer inspection Armada’s graphics are quite vibrant and crisp. Though there is no amazing polygon count or blazing frame-rate to be measured, colors are used excellently and the game is artistically magnificent. Ships, planets, explosions and space stations all look terrific. On the negative side, there is a tiny bit of pixellation which is present if scarcely noticeable. Also, the background of space is filled with a smoky, lime-green film that resembles a swamp from Dagobah and is just flat-out ugly. Fortunately, the heavy action keeps eyes focused on the battles, and as a whole the game looks very good.

Aurally, Armada is nearly flawless. Laser fire sounds high-tech and precise, explosions are deep and full of bass, and dying aliens emit various slightly echoed shrieks that nearly permeate one’s consciousness. The music score is unobtrusive and eerie while in space, triumphant when returning to town after successfully completing a mission. Voice acting is absolutely top-notch and will have a player repeatedly scanning friendly ships to hear the same sound bytes over again. In all, an excellent opportunity to keep the stereo up loud.

And wow, does this game play! The experience of laying into the alien Armada with volley after volley of laser blasts will have a person glued to their controller for interminable amounts of time. The developer clearly worked very hard at making sure damage, speed, armor, rate of fire and enemy AI all come together in such harmony that action is always challenging without ever being frustrating. Battles escalate as friends and foes swarm on screen to blow one another to bits in a mishmash of glowing multi-colored laser fire. It’s the kind of pc game download that makes time fly past in the real world at a horrifically alarming rate (”I’ve been playing for four hours?? I just picked up the controller a moment ago…”), and this is as powerful a credit to its design as could be hoped for.

Rhythm Heaven is a set of fifty songs that have you doing different tasks set to their rhythm. You may have to juice up robots coming off an assembly line, for example, or follow along to play guitar at a rock concert. Everything in the game uses three control methods. You are either tapping the touch screen, tapping and holding down, or flicking upward. You will have to hold down the stylus to fill the robots for a certain number of beats, but you will be flicking to strum your guitar.

Getting through four levels will open up a “remix” level that combines all four songs and actions into one song, so it is really a matter of adapting to the changing rhythms of the songs as best you can and remembering the different nuances of the games for the remix levels. It can be easier said than done to do so, however, as games download full version types can get pretty devious at times. This isn’t really due to the rhythms being hard to stick to so much as the very low margin of error Rhythm Heaven affords you. It won’t take more than a handful of mistakes to fail the song. Luckily, the game has primers for each song to teach you the ropes before tossing you in headfirst, and its genuinely fun to replay the songs and test your rhythmic skills.

It won’t take more than a couple hours to get through the songs if you’ve got a good sense of rhythm, but there are lots of extras to dive into as well. Gold medals can be earned for each song by performing extremely well, and its addictive to try and get them all. Rhythm trinkets like a DJ scratch table unlock by collecting medals, and guitars lessons, a Battle of the Bands mode, and still more come after that. There’s a lot of extra material here to keep you entertained. There were similar features in the previous game, but the songs are simply much better here, and the touch screen input far more involved.

The environments were breathtaking, but the southwestern-US desert setting of Monument Valley was somewhat monotonous. The online community was small but dedicated, and the experience was surprisingly lag free, although it suffered a bit from less than stellar lobbies and wait times. Though the racing itself was an absolute blast, there were no other event types apart from time attack, and no splitscreen multiplayer of any kind. Finally, the load times. The load times were god awful. Some of the worst I’ve ever experienced in any game. EVER.

So how does Evolution Studios follow up a great but flawed new IP? Enter Pacific Rift.

Graphics? Check. The visuals have been kicked up a notch, with more colors, great draw distance, beautiful lighting/water/fire/lava/smoke effects, the whole package.

Vehicles? Check. All seven vehicle types make a triumphant return, and herald the arrival of an eighth member: the Monster Truck. The pros and cons of each vehicle class are now even more pronounced as there’s more than just alternate routes and scattered mud on which to base your optimal racing lines. Which brings us to the next point…

Tracks? Check. Try sixteen courses over the previous title’s eight. Try four gorgeous environmental settings: Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Try longer, more intricate, and more varied laps. Try the addition of foliage, streams, rivers, and waterfalls, fire, and lava. If you thought Bikes had a rough go at the mud, try the rapids. Plus, the water and fire have additional affects on your engine temperature. I bet you can figure out which does what.. This definitely makes for more strategic route planning: should I take the short path next to the molten lava which will limit my boost, or the longer path through the shower canopy to cool the engine and allow for longer boost? The beauty of the tracks are that there really is no wrong answer, as each route is viable based upon the situation.

Race types? Check. The addition of Elimination races (last place explodes every few seconds) and Speed events (checkpoint-to-checkpoint solo ventures) are interesting, though a more varied stable of event types would have been welcome. Also, offline splitscreen is available for up to 4 players. The frame rate and graphics maintain a high level of quality, though four separate screens makes things quite chaotic at times. It’s a nice option, but you will probably still spend most of your time playing the games download full version or in the single-player Festival races or online.

A.I.? Well, sort of “check.” The brutal artificial intelligence of the NPC racers you square off against throughout Pacific Rift’s Festival seems to have been directly ported over from Monument Valley. On the higher difficulty levels, even seasoned vets have to depend on random acts of god to defeat some of these superhuman vehicles with unlimited boost and unholy turning ability. The “rubberband” effect is still very much in play, meaning you can finish a race in 3:40 to net a nice silver medal and finish in 3:18 the very next race on the same track (that’s a 22 second difference for those not keeping score) and still get second place. There’s something indescribably frustrating in knowing that skill has relatively little to do with winning the higher level races. However, there is a plus side to this madness: there are few experiences in gaming which can lift your spirits to the epic heights felt when finally getting first on a brutal race in Motorstorm. It keeps you coming back for more.

Set in a world where orcs and man are at an uneasy peace, a group of dwarf miners have stumbled across a buried tomb, which may contain the fallen orc god, Azriaal. This discovery has raised tensions considerably, as the orcs now see this as a holy crusade to recover their deity, and return to power like they enjoyed centuries earlier. While this chaos is swirling around, players take control of a lone adventurer, the only survivor from what was a once party of four, and must now figure out how they will deal with what is happening. This is where a lot of decision making will come in, as players can choose to take sides however they please. Whatever one does will impact their standing with the various factions of the game, and how different people will react to your character’s presence, as well as change the direction of Two Worlds’ story.

While determining what direction your moral compass will face, there will be plenty of opportunity to beat the tar out of your enemies. Here combat will be semi-automatic, which means basic attacks like a simple swing of the sword are done automatically, while players do more complicated, strategic attacks themselves. What these fancy attacks may be remains to be seen, but it does appear that the ability to lay traps is among them or you can just finish it and get pc games download instead. In terms of magic, it looks like Two Worlds will take a somewhat alchemical approach, allowing players to gather supplies and build their own spells.

Like the prior games, Ring of Fates will support up to four players in multiplayer mode, as well as sporting the option to go it alone in single player. In the event one decides to play with some friends, everyone involved votes on a group leader, and then they get down to business.

While going through multiplayer, there will be five classes to choose from: Warriors, Archers, White Mages, Black Mages, and a support class. Warriors are the melee fighters for up close combat, while archers rain arrows from a distance, and black mages bombard enemies with arcane attacks. All the while, others take care of healing. The support class appears to fill a micromanagement role where it creates special orbs that magic users need in order to cast their spells.

Generally, the action will take place on the top screen, while players issue commands and sort through menus via the touch screen. However, it is possible to swap the screens, allowing players to attack enemies simply by poking them with their stylus pen. Going this route is also expected to open the door to special combo attacks.

Single player mode will follow the adventures of the twins as they unearth the mysteries of a red crystal, which reminds me of a lot of free pc games download puzzles. Along the way they will meet new characters like Meeth, the spell caster Alhanalem, a lad named Gnash, and the twins’ father, Ratov. Don’t worry you don’t have to memorize the names, just play and have fun!
